She was born in Istanbul in 1973. She took three-stringed classical kemancha lessons from İhsan Özgen during her secondary education in the Department of Instrument Training of the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory, during 1984 – 1990. In the Department of Composition of the same conservatory, during 1990-1994 she completed her bachelor's degree with the final project entitled "Composition Trials", under the consultation of Demirhan Altuğ. During 1995 – 1997 she completed her master's degree with her thesis entitled “A Study on Performing the Works of Tanburî Cemil Bey with Kemencha (Performance – Note Difference)”, under the consultation of Prof. Dr. Mutlu Torun at the ITU Institute of Social Sciences. During the same years she gave three-stringed kemancha courses as a lecturer in various departments of ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory. She worked as music teacher in the Avrupa Koleji during the 1999-2000 school year. Following her graduation, Özel participated as kemancha artist in many domestic and foreign concerts, festivals, TV and radio programs with various music groups, ensembles and orchestras; in 2006 she completed her Proficiency in Arts education in the Institute of Social Sciences of ITU with her thesis entitled "A Method On Teaching Three-Stringed Classical Kemancha", under the consultation of Prof. Ş. Şehvar Beşiroğlu. During 2000 - 2010 she worked as Research Assistant i the Department of Music and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Art and Design of the Yıldız Technical University. Since 2011 she works as Associate Professor and as the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design of the Yıldız Technical University.
