He was born in Ankara in 1954. In 1974 he participated in emissions in the Ankara Radio, with an exception agreement. In 1980 he started working in TRT as a "trained artist". He performed note calligraphy, qanun performance, program production and execution audit committee membership. He worked with Necdet Yaşar in the Ministry of Culture Istanbul State Turkish Music Ensemble between 1991 - 1994. In addition to his official duties, he gave lectures on Turkish music history and theory in many universities at home and abroad.
He gave concerts in Turkey and the USA and prepared albums with the Lâlezar Turkish Music Ensemble he founded in 2001. These albums were given the “Best of World Music” award in the USA in 2002. In 2004, together with Dr. Barihûda Tanrıkorur and Prof. Walter Feldman, he prepared a report entitled "Mevlevi Rites and Mukabele-i Şerif", submitted to the Unesco and this, allowed for the choice of Mevlevi rites as part of the human heritage and masterpieces worth protection. His wife Selma Sağbaş is a voice artist at the TRT Istanbul Radio and his only son Alâeddin Emre Sağbaş is a young flute virtuoso.
He is currently working as qanun artist at the TRT Istanbul Radio. He is working as a qanun instructor in the Biksad Art Workshop since 2013.
